AceCad South Africa expands into new facility

21st April 2008

Due to unprecedented business growth AceCad Software South Africa is moving to larger premises which will better accommodate the growing numbers of support and sales staff servicing the Africa region.

Commercial Sales Manager for AceCad Software South Africa, Mr Paul Marais states, "this move is an important step for AceCad’s business in South Africa and our positioning is also been carefully chosen strategically close to many of our existing valued clients". He continues "with such tremendous growth comes expansion in our number of employees and we look forward to continuing to serve both existing and new users with both first class support and advanced new product innovation".

2007/2008 has indeed been an exciting year for AceCad Software South Africa, with all sales records greatly exceeded, a doubling of sales and support staff, a move to new premises and the recent standardisation of StruCad as the tool of choice for the new South African Institute of Steel Construction/DSE Draughting School.

"The future is set to be impressive for the continued advancement of StruCad in the African market", according to International Sales Director, Mr Richard Brotherton. "We are encouraged by our user’s feedback and their reporting of competitive advantages that they have realised as a result of speed of modelling and accuracy of automated output in StruCad". He continues, "their success stories build our business and with sales of both StruCad and StruM.I.S .NET to South Africa’s largest steelwork contractor’s we are in the unique position of being able to offer the complete Fabrication Information Modelling solution to the industry."

AceCad Software’s Fabrication Information Modelling solution is a practical implementation of the BIM concept and delivers the real advantages in productivity, efficiency and profitability that can be achieved by system integration. It also addresses the problems of information control, issue and transfer and visualisation.

By looking closely at the integration of the steel design, detailing, fabrication and erection processes we have developed a range of facilities that make the process more open, transparent and accessible to all elements of the supply chain - from client to erector. The main components of the system are StruCad the worlds leading 3D structural steel detailing system and StruMIS .NET our fabrication management and information system. Both are a ’best of breed’ solution in their fields and each is capable of being linked to other 3rd party systems in various ways. These core systems are supplemented by freeware viewing tools such as AceCad’s Struwalker 3D model and Drawing viewers which together provide a controlled access and collaboration capability.

This close linking allows for the first time a capability for project managers, perhaps on a site, to access real-time data about the structural model, material order, delivery status and the fabrication progress from their desktop. All this is available not just through written reports but as a unique 3D visualisation of the building model as it develops from a design model to a completed structure. This process, which can be completely open to the interested parties, is a working demonstration of delivering solutions across disciplines.

This complete integration manages the flow of information, such as CNC data and drawings between the design office and shop-floor, ensuring that it is available where it is needed, as it is needed and always up to date. The visibility and real-time nature of the information to system users makes for real clarity in workflow management and decision making.

Also, let’s not limit our thinking to the single building model. The reality for a steelwork contractor is not managing a single project - he has to balance his entire resources. StruM.I.S .NET goes beyond that single model boundary and integrates the whole procurement, stock control and multiple site management processes of the structural steelwork contractor. It also feeds back into its database information developed from experience to refine estimates and planning which will continue to improve the process to the benefit of future projects.
