Steelwork Design Engineer - UK
The position
The Steelwork Design Engineer will work in the Design Department to provide structural designs and calculations for a wide range of building structures on behalf our nationally renowned clients and to give structural guidance to our own Drawing Office. Additional duties will be to assist our in-house Development Department who are currently developing design software suites for integration into our Strucad drawing system.
Duties and responsibilities
- Produce calculations and designs for approval, to our clients, Local Authorities and Engineers.
- Liaise with and where necessary, attend meetings with clients, Engineers, Architects and Contractors.
- Liaise with external drawing offices to ensure they interpret your designs correctly.
- Provide technical assistance and support to our in-house drawing offices.
- Assist in writing Technical Specifications for our in-house design software and in providing ongoing advice and a testing function as the software development proceeds.
The candidate
Candidates must be self-motivated and posses an ability to operate in a practical design office environment. They will require good written and verbal communication skills and have an ability to convey information to third parties. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential to fulfil this role, together with the ability to produce high quality work to tight programmes.
The successful candidate will preferably have a degree in Structural Engineering, though consideration will be given to someone with an HNC in Structural Engineering. They will have two or more years experience working in Structural Design office, preferably in that of a steel fabricator. A good working knowledge of the current British Standards and Codes of Practice for structural steel design and the familiarly of Computer Aided Design methods are essential. An interest in computer programming would be beneficial. In-house and external training will be given where appropriate
